Silks and velvet. Bright Bouquet Inspired hues. Fine feathers and faux furs. Too much?! Are you kidding? Never Enough is what I say! And as you can see, in our holiday post, shot on location at the headquarters of Manhattan’s hottest florist Raúl, some WOTF’s favorite designers couldn’t agree more.
Bedeck It Ralph
Who conjures up the magic and mystery of opulence and the wealth of a life well-lived than designer Ralph Lauren? Fifty years in business and still going strong, Ralph Lauren reigns supreme with lush velvet smoking jackets with playful gender-bending detailing like this neon collar meant to make an entrance and above all, to leave a lasting impression.
If you’re staying instead of going out? Make sure you watch Very Ralph, the new HBO documentary produced by Graydon Carter, the former editor- in- chief of Vanity Fair. Very Ralph is a touching and balanced portrait of how a real family worked together to bring a fashion fantasy to life and build an iconic empire. Congrats Ralph et al – 50 never looked so good.
“Go the Max!” In case you missed it, that’s the fashion memo this holiday season. Fashion says, treat yourself to textured textiles with woven in patterns and anything that has big beautiful ornamental princess sleeves. The whole fashion story comes together flawlessly in this forever dress from Alaia. Dramatic accessories, like this Napoleon cap draped with a delicate petite-pois veil from hat-maker extraordinaire Eric Javits designed with a retro-modern flair that turns tradition on its head. Pair it with a Chelsea no-nonsense Chelease boot add a sleek structured top handle bag and you’re chic and comfortable all at once.
I love movies. Much of how I dress begins with a moment in a film that sparks my imagination. Like this 19th-century femme-dandy look inspired by Gentleman Jack the HBO mini-series about the real-life adventures of Anne Lister, who in 1832, became one of the first known members of the LGBTQ community who was both an independent landowner and businesswoman in West Yorkshire, England.
Swaddle me in silk and seduce me with color! Designer of the moment, Christopher John Rogers, winner of 2019/2020 prestigious Council of Fashion Designers Award for New Designer of the Year, is a talent to watch. Known for show-stopping silhouettes and mind-blowing use of color he’s the perfect wingman for your holiday nights and flights of fancy. This elegant sharp-shouldered silk moire tux showcases Rogers’s understated side, I love how the Obi belt makes me feel wrapped up like a gift with a beautiful bow. You can watch Christopher John Rodgers’s latest award-winning work here.
